A stainless steel jacketed reactor is a closed processing vessel with an outer jacket through which a heat-transfer fluid circulates, so you can heat or cool the contents while stirring under controlled conditions. The rugged stainless construction makes these reactors suited to mixing, reacting, dissolving, crystallizing, and blending at volumes and pressures where a glass vessel would be impractical, and to processes where an opaque, durable, easily sanitized vessel is preferred.
Compared with glass reactors, stainless steel jacketed reactors tolerate higher mechanical stress, larger working volumes, and more aggressive handling, and they hold up to repeated heat-and-cool cycling between the jacket fluid and the batch. In cannabis processing they are used for steps such as winterization, reaction chemistry, decarboxylation support, and bulk formulation or mixing, where a sealed metal vessel with an agitator and temperature control is the right tool for the batch size.
Choose a reactor by working volume first, then by the agitation and temperature control the process needs: anchor or turbine agitators for viscous or well-mixed batches, jacket connections matched to your heater or chiller, and ports for charging, sampling, vacuum, and bottom discharge. Confirm the wetted materials and seals suit your solvents, and that the jacket is rated for the temperature range and any pressure or vacuum your process applies.
